Peer Review
I made progress in being able to Peer Review my own and others’ work by emphasizing
global revision early in the writing process and local revision later in the process.
Learning outcome #4 peer review
When I was peer reviewing one of my classmates’ papers, I provided constructive feedback on both her strengths and weaknesses and areas that could use some improvement. one of the main strengths of the paper is the overall flow and organization. The writing was extremely smooth with clear transitions between paragraphs. This made the introduction engaging and easy to follow. The student has a strong understanding of the topic I their introduction paragraph. I like how the paper used a formal tone and correct grammar, though that section.
One of my major concerns was that the paper only had an introduction paragraph and nothing else, which was more than I had on my other peer reviews, so I picked. Without the rest of the paper, it was hard to provide a more thoughtful review. With no body paragraph or conclusion, I could not assess the effectiveness of the argument or even the depth of analysis the student intended to include in their paper. This left me unable to evaluate how well their information supported their claim. Of course, I mentioned extending their paper by adding body paragraphs and a conclusion that supported their claim, encouraged them to include more specific examples and references to support their ideas, and provided a deeper analysis. I also suggested that they focus on crafting a strong conclusion that follows the same flow and smoothness of the introduction and that does not just summarize their argument but also offers a final perspective or call to action that leaves the reader with something to think about. In my review, I used a positive tone to make sure that my feedback would be encouraging not a put-down by providing clear, actionable suggestions, I aimed to assist the students in strengthening their paper and improving their argumentation skills
